Case study

Relocation from London to Hong Kong

The time zone meant our consultants needed to be in the office very early to speak to prospective clients

Challenge

London office were referred to a VP Derivatives Risk candidate who had relocated to Asia following his wife’s successful internal transfer. Firstly, he did not have a work visa which limited his options as he would require sponsorship. Secondly, the time zone meant our consultants needed to be in the office very early to speak to prospective clients.

Approach

Rather than approaching the local market on the candidate’s behalf, we turned to our relationships in the UK, reaching out to several Global Heads who may be interested in his profile, and speaking to regional leaders who could refer us to their Asian counterparts. Our London consultants put together a client list and cross referenced that with those who had offices in the region.

Outcome

Reaching out to around a dozen institutions on the candidate’s behalf, we picked up two jobs at different institutions, one in Risk and Control and the other in Middle Office, both of which were of interest to him. After taking part in several interviews, it was determined he was a better fit for the Risk role given his background, and we worked with HR locally not only to onboard Trevose Partners as a supplier, but also to sponsor the candidate’s working visa once an offer had been accepted.
